Dunno what the heck these are but they appear to sprout from the ground from pods...

EDIT: It was determined to be Clathrus columnatus, a stinkhorn mushroom. Very aptly named.

Using my poor eyesight, and the lack of 3D vision looking at the screen, it appears like these "objects" were placed in the ground, instead of growing up from underneath the soil. I'm not 100% convinced they grew there.

If you think they're that unusual, will you contact someone from the State Agriculture Dept. or maybe the local College?

It rained a bit here and they didn't seem to like it so I bravely scooped them onto a tray but I couldn't tolerate having them inside.
