I finally seem to have kicked the cold I had and Alex, one of my wife's caregivers sons, helped me put all the vents in the duct work for the central heat and air.

It's only been four or five years of me staring at the gaping holes in the ceilings LOL.

I need someone with me so I can remember what I'm doing still but anyways we got them all in which magically let the furthest side of the house begin to warm up so after two days of evening things up last evening no pun intended I shut the furnace off, filled the wood burner full and closed the damper, noted it was 74 in the house, and when I woke at 5am it was at 73 and it was 25 degrees outside...

The house collects the winter sunlight and even on a 40 degree day it will warm itself up to about 74 or 75 which it seems to like, without the heater running constantly.

I think I bought 8 bunks (bundles) of plywood when I was finishing the house up and have it glued and nailed under all the sheetrock to make the house more wind resistant, but the extra mass is like a big rock in the desert that keeps you warm when the sun goes down and the extra insulation I put in the attic Last December to bring it to R80 is working out big time.

Keep the rock in mind if you're ever lost in some desert!

LOL.

Remembering Things

(Permanent Link)
I dont know if you are like me, memory wise that is, when I forget something I get this feeling like I know I have forgotten something but I just cant remember what it is. I found that if I keep a little digital tape recorder in my pocket and at the beginning of the day record what I want to do during the day, then update it whenever I think of something else. Then when I get that feeling like I have forgotten something I play the tape and one of the things seems to stick out to me. And then at the end of the week I rewind and write over everything else. I have stopped using it since I started college but sometimes I will make notes on my computer desktop and force myself to read them through at regular intervals and it has saved my rear a few times.

I carry a notebook

(Permanent Link)
When I was finishing the house I put a white board up in the foyer and wrote what it was I wanted to get done like you do with your tape recorder.

I've got a mimi pocket recorder I use somedays to, but things in my possesion tend to get broken lol so I seldom take it unless I am taking my wife to the docs and need notes..

Good luck with College!
