Hey Reporter!

When are you gonna do a phone interview with me?

How many 46 year olds do you know that can do a 9 minute mile 12 hours after surgery?

Do you have all of the energy efficiency things you've done to your house listed somewhere? I've looked but I want to know more about the igloo in the attic, and all the other things.

The reporter I think didn't completely understand what I was saying but that could be my fault cause I often don't say what I actually mean or mean what I actually say...

And here is the "Igloo"

(Permanent Link)
I actually used the word igloo when describing how I was going to modify this project but that was while trying to explain how I wanted to capture heat and save it during coller nights.

Have you ever thought about putting up solar panels, doing a solar hot water heater, or any wind energy. I plan on at least looking at some when I build my house.

I Have 3 tons of Sand in my Attic

It doesn't have the high temps I'd get from solar panels to heat my water but it is zero maintenence and gives me about a 30 degree boost in water temp before the well water reaches my electric water heater.

The west side of the house gets full sun in the winter moreout of dumb luck than anything but the bottom level is a foot thick of masonary which collects the heat from the sun during the day and then radiates it into the bottom level at night. On real sunny days I open the bottom garage to collect this heat.

The house gains about 7 degrees during the day if it is in the 70's here in Florida and gets to about 78 degrees inside and is insulated enough that during the nights it loses the same seven but that is still enough for the house to be about 72 when I get up.

I'm pretty battered and have lots of sore spots so the heat helps me and I'll kick the furnace on for a few hours when I get up to bring the house to about 76 but if I wasn't hurt most days my furnace doesn't get much use.

The wood burner in my workshop below has the heat ducted to this computer room, the Kitchen and the Great Room.

I just had my shoulder cut on a bit and I have been splurging and lighting a fire during the day and hoarding all the heat in this room by closing the other vents.

I have it about 80 in here now...
