May. 20th, 2007 @ 10:28 pm Getting Back to Working
I've been kind of Idling along working everyday on stuff but not very hard mostly because I was so burned out with working on the house. I keep telling people I'm done with it as long as the wife isn't there to contradict me...

Mostly I've been working on my landscaping project because it's good exercise and distracting enough to keep me interested in it for long stretches of time. I'm going to probably start working on my cabin up the road next week and see if I can get it rented again then remodel the trailer I drug up there and set up seven years or so ago and never got around to finishing and then I figure I'll have this house out of my system enough I can get back to finishing all the odds and ends that still need done. Most of the rooms are in place but there is still a few full of boxes and the wife's oldest is going to visit in a week so I need to get the guest suite straightened out and drag furniture up there.

The wife got a new vehicle. This started because she's been on me for some time now to get a newer truck and I just really didn't see it as a priority. She got one of those electric scooters a few months ago which makes a big difference and she can zip all over the house and out the front door with it's built in ramps and down to the back yard and to the pool but she's been wanting a way to go places and her car really wasn't meant to pull anything so I cleverly diverted her argument about me getting a new truck into her getting a new vehicle that was more suited to pull things.

A month or so ago she was at a gas station and someone pulled next to her in a Kia and may have said they were getting 30 some miles to the gallon and suddenly she decided she really needed one. I went with her to look at them and made it out without buying anything although they did chase me out into the parking lot as I was driving off and I promised them I would think it over and come back if we decided to get a Kia but I did notice the mileage was a lot less than the mileage she thought she would get and I kind of put Kia's out of my mind like I do with most thoughts over ten minutes of age.

A week later she went to a doctors appointment driven by the lady that helps her during the day and hours go by and I'm working in the yard and the phone rings and hey we stopped at a car dealers on the way home and bought a 2006 Kia!

My first reaction of course is to say no you didn't but I have been married to her for too long to even think that would work but from what she said on the phone the price wasn't bad and this being such thin ice to walk on in summer I may done a very good job of staying neutral. The salesman would drive it home and I had to drive him back which if you know me having to drive 35 miles each way probably got me more irked than her buying the car but still I remained neutral.

She gets home and tells me it's 4WD and I look and well no it's not and she says she has a 10 year warranty and I think well I'll check and so on but I stay calm and hop in the truck to drive the guy back. I got about a mile up the road and realize this is the cheaper of the two Kia's SUV's I forget the names and then suddenly the price she paid isn't the good deal as I thought but a run of the mill just pay sticker and now I start asking questions politely and I call the wife to verify what she thinks she bought and well I need to talk to someone about this because we don't want this car which got me some looks and telling me first off she signed a purchase agreement is really not a good way to begin...

I love to barter and I explained a few things to them very politely because its just business and we ended up swapping the 2006 Kia and getting a 2006 Buick Rendezvous AWD with everything including the DVD in the back even trade no hard feelings...

For the record the dealership must have realized they screwed up a bit and I left pretty happy so I'd go back there if I ever was forced to repeat this process.

Landscaping

(Permanent Link)
I am also working on a landscaping project but I am kind of stuck and don't have any new ideas.I hope I'll invent something interesting soon.
